Family Annual Donation

The Family Annual Donation (FAD) Drive officially kicked off on October 3! This year's goal is to raise $200,000 through the campaign, which runs until November 4. We are striving for participation from 100% of our Overland families to meet the goal. The suggested donation amount is $900 per student for the 2011-2012 school year. This is the equivalent of $6 per day of instruction to help fund many critical programs at the school, including science lab, technology, music, the arts program, class size reduction, the library, drama, and more. Every student benefits from these wonderful programs and the Overland community needs everyone's financial support to continue to provide them.

We certainly understand that not all families can donate the suggested amount and are fortunate that those who can often give significantly higher to help us reach our goal. Past donations have ranged from $25 to $5,000 per family. We need and appreciate every donation no matter the amount, and all donations are tax-deductible. Ask your employer about matching programs that can double and even triple your family contribution. You can make one payment or make a pledge and spread your payments over the school year – as best fits your family budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is a public school, shouldn’t tax dollars pay for everything?
California is ranked very low in per student education expenditure. Ask around and you will find that most high performing public schools do their own fundraising and have a family annual donation.
Is the money I give to the Family Annual Donation tax-deductible?
Yes! FOO is a 501 (c)(3) corporation and donations are tax-deductible. We will prepare a receipt for every contribution.
There seem to be a lot of fundraisers, which is the most important?
The Family Annual Donation is the only FOO fundraiser in the Fall. It is important because 100% of the money is unrestricted and goes to support enrichment programs and activities that have been prioritized. With other fundraisers, vendors can take a percentage of donations and/or funds can be restricted.
I already write a check to S.T.A.R. Does that count towards your fund-raising efforts?
No!!! S.T.A.R. is a private, nonprofit company that provides excellent care and enrichment for students after school, but the money you pay is for their services.
I gave toward the end of the last school year, why should I give again this year?
Our budget starts new each school year and requires new fund-raising efforts every year.
I want to support the school, but paying $900 per child in one lump sum is beyond our family budget?
You can pledge any amount and decide on a personal payment schedule. If $900 per child is not possible, we welcome whatever donation you can make. We are striving for 100% participation, so please contribute whatever you can manage.
Can I give more than $900 per student?
Yes! We welcome larger donations each year that make up the difference for families who cannot give the target amount. Compared to the cost of private school, and in light of the fact that donations are tax-deductible, it’s a wonderful way to give generously for those who can afford it. We also welcome donations from other relatives and employers’ matching gifts.
